Sultan Batarah Shah Tengah (1596–1608)

The son of Sultan Muhammad ul-Halim. "Batarah" was a title used by Sulu rulers as early as the beginning of the fifteenth century, and Brunei annals always referred to Sulu rulers by this term. Died without heir.[1] Sultan Batara Shah Tengah (also known as Pangiran Tindig or Pangiran Tengah) was the 8th Sultan of Sulu . He reigned from 1596 to 1608 (Some other Sulu Tarsilas or genealogical records say he reigned from 1585 to 1600). Sultan Muhammad ul-Halim (1568–1596)

The son of Sultan Nasirud-Din I. His other name was Pangiran Buddiman which was the name by which he was probably known.[1] In Brunei genealogy, he is recognized to have married a Brunei princess, "Putri Brunei. m. before May 1578, H.H. Paduka Maulana Maha Sri Sultan Shah Muhammad al-Halim Buddiman, Sultan of Sulu (d. 1579), son of H.H. Paduka Maulana Maha Sri Sultan Shah Nazir ud-din Awal I, Sultan of Sulu". His Brunei royal wife was a daughter of Sultan 'Abdu'l Kahar Jalil ul-Alam (ibni al-Marhum Sultan Bolkiah Shah Alam) who reigned from 1533 to 1578, from the latter's 2nd wife. [2] Interestingly, his wife's younger sister is recorded in the same Brunei genealogy "m. Raja Sulaiman, Raja of Maynilad (k. in battle with the Spanish, at Maynilad Fortress, 6th March 1571), nephew and successor of Raja Muhammad Matanda, Raja of Maynilad."[2] Further to the Brunei genealogy, his daughter by his Brunei wife, married and became the 4th wife of Brune

Sultan Nasir ud-Din I (1548–1568)

The son of Sultan Muizz ul-Mutawadi-in. His surname was Digunung or Habud, suggesting that he grew up in or ruled from the interior of Sulu.[1] Is he the same "Sultan Nasuran" referred to in the Brunei Tarsila, whose daughter "Putri Laila Menjanai (bur. at the Kiangi, above the Upas)" became the 2nd wife of Brunei Sultan Bolkiah Shah Alam ibni al-Marhum Sultan Sulaiman (1513-1533)? [2] If this is true, then their daugher, his granddaughter, is also claimed in the same genealogy to have married the Raja of Maynilad, in Luzon, the Philippines. Further, her granddaughter's son was Raja Muhammad Matanda, of Maynilad. Raja Matanda  married at Brunei, ca. 29th July 1521, his first cousin, a granddaughter of Sultan Bolkiah Shah Alam [2] Reference: [1] List of Sulu Sultans - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sultans_of_Sulu [2] Brunei Genealogy, Page 3 -  https://www.royalark.net/Brunei/brunei3.htm

Sultan Muizzul-Mutawadi-in (1527–1548)

He is the Maharajah Upo (grandchild) of Sharif ul-Hashim. Some genealogies states that he succeeded to the sultanate upon the death of Kamalud-Din.[1] Reference: [1] "List of Sulu Sultans" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sultans_of_Sulu

Sultan Amirul-Umara (1505–1527)

His title is believed to be the Arabic translation of Maharajah-di-rajah found as the fourth sultan in some tarsilas. Some Sulu genealogy do not mention him. [1] Believed to be the Sultan Bolkiah.[1] A closer examination of Brunei's Sultan Bolkiah reveals that he reign between 1513-1533. Sultan Ala ud-Din

Sulu Genealogy suggests that he was a brother of Kamalud-Din. A son of Sultan Shariful-Hashim, but believed not to be proclaimed the "Sultan of Sulu".[1] Reference: [1] "List of Sulu Sultans" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sultans_of_Sulu

Sultan Kamal ud-Din (1480–1505)

The son of the Sharif ul-Hashim who succeeded his father as sultan.[1] References: [1] "List of Sulu Sultans" -  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sultans_of_Sulu

Shariful Hashim [1457-1480]

He is thought-to-be a royal import. Many claims he is from Malacca Sultanate, either he is from the latter's royal family or not is a subject of another post. Who became known as Paduka (Royal) Maha (Great) sari (lit, strip of cloth; fig, of royal descent)  Maulana (Lord Master) Sultan (Ruler) Sharif [1] ul Hashim, the first sultan and the founder of the unified Sultanate of Sulu, started as Sayyid Abubakar. As he is not a native of Sulu, he gained political access by marrying Paramisuli, the daughter of pre-sultanate ruler, Rajah Baguinda. [2] (In yet another post, we will explain that both "Rajah Baguinda" and "Paramisuli" are possibly Sanskrit-derived Malay royal titles than proper names.) In Brunei Tarsila/Sarsila available on Royal Ark, his regnal name is reflected as follows, "Paduka Maulana Maha Sri Sultan Sharif al-Hashim 'Abu Bakar bin Sharif Zainal-Abidn, Sultan of Sulu" [2] References: [1] The noble title "Sharif" and
